Some modern writers are driven to exasperation by all the attention that Alcibiades has received over the millennia. I think the exasperation is a bit ironic, since Peter Green, the author of this critique, writes frequently about Alcibiades. He does make a valid point when describing Alcibiades as a “smart-alecky backstairs pol.”
