Once the Athenian Expedition had been thoroughly defeated and Alcibiades had gone on (to Sparta, actually) to start some new machinations, what possible motive would there have been for the Segestans to continue building a temple that had already served its purpose, albeit not in the way that they might have expected? Simply put, there was no will or money to bring it to completion.
