We read in the chronicles of Diodorus Siculus, a 1st century BC historian and a native of Sicily, that through much of the 5th century Segesta was at war with Selinus, its closest Greek neighbor. The conflicts were mostly over land. Apparently, Selinus was the aggressor, frequently invading Segestan territory with its superior military forces.
